The Quilts
general information
These quilts are made from vintage linen / cotton sheets bought in France.
They are hand dyed, printed, screen printed and sewn together as quilts.
Using embroidery thread, a variety of designs are completed with hand sewing.
The whole process creates a totally original hand made quilt for the wall or the bed.

Brighton Beach

The bright colours replicate those from the beach in Brighton in summer and the printing echoes the stones and sand.
It is designed as a large wall hanging, but looks great when used on a bed.
The quilt measures 140 by 170cms.
The Japanese Quilt

This quilt is hand dyed using Indigo and a Japanese Shibori technique which involves, tying, stitching and use of found objects.
The range of patterns is surprising and both predictable and unpredictable.
The red and blue, on the edge of the quilt, uses Procion dye, in an African style tie dye technique
The Japanese quilt measures 150 by 220cms.

This quilt is inspired by the painting ‘Wilbury Twist by Mali Morris RA.
It reminds me of wonderful times in London listening to jazz concerts and of course visiting the Royal Academy.

This has been dyed using Indigo and japanese shibori technique. Fully stiched with French embroidery thread it is completely hand quilted.
It would make a lovely wall hanging, a sofa quilt or a large cot quilt.
It measures 128 by 128cms.

The women of Gees Bend, Alabama, USA make the most amazing, colourful quilts.
This is a large quilt made in the same style. The fabric is a vintage, strong cotton French quilt. The black printed fabric in the middle section is some curtain fabric from the 1970s. The whole quilt is hand quilted.
It measures 150 by 220cms.

How did this quilt get its name?
It was printed with textile paints using fruit and veg, carrots, lettuce (yes lettuce!) lemon, grapefruit, orange and many other fruit and veg.
It measures 140 by 142cms

This quilt is not under dyed or block printed.
The pattern is made solely by screen print. The red bands between the sections is applique.
It would enliven any wall or any bed.
